Amazing Interesting Scientific Facts

If looked into carefully, science will always have something different to offer. Something that is lesser known and provides an abundance of knowledge when you knock at it. Science is so jammed with facts that even if you get to discover one every day, there still would remain plenty for the rest of your life and for the future generations to come.

Therefore, knowing these facts will not only amaze you but will also add something to your knowledge every day. And also isn't it important to be familiar with the world and its elements that we are surrounded by?

We know that by now you must be curious about knowing these facts.

Some Interesting Scientific Facts

So let’s have a look at some of the very lesser-known yet Interesting scientific facts.

1. The bacterial cells in a human body are 10x more than the human cells

Isn’t it ironic how irresistible we become when someone sneezes or coughs around us and we rush to the washbasin to compulsively wash off all the germs when in reality our bodies are home to bacteria?

Well it doesn’t sound so pleasing to you, does it? There's nothing to worry about as all these bacteria are only helpful to your body and it's a fact that your body cannot function without them.

The bacteria works well in providing us with the required energy and nutrients from the food we eat. Here you just added Interesting scientific facts to your knowledge.

2. An average person takes steps equivalent to covering the entire earth 5 times in a lifetime

Have you ever counted the number of steps you walk every day? If not, then let us acquaint you with it. An average person takes around 7,500 steps per day. If you live for let’s say about 80 years and walk the same number of steps every day then after doing a little math you will be walking 216,262,500 steps in your entire lifetime. The incremental steps can cover an area of 110,000 miles, the same distance required to walk the earth 5 times right at the equator.

3. The number of atoms present in a teaspoonful of water is 8X greater than the number of atoms present in the Atlantic Ocean

Among the least known interesting scientific facts, this one tops the chart. The number of molecules present in a teaspoonful of water is 2×1023, but each water molecule contains 3 atoms: two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen. Therefore, if you will join each water molecule from that teaspoon of water end to end you will end up having a length of 50 billion km-10 times the width of our solar system.

4. Did you know that there are 2 dozen states of matter

How many states of matter do you know of? Three to max solid, liquid, and gas. And if you are quite acquainted with Physics you must know of the 4th state as well which is the four fundamental states of matter called plasma-a hot ionized gas, with the lightning or neon signs being the prime examples. But apart from these common states of matter scientists have discovered a multitude of states of matter that occur in varied conditions. One of them is Boose-Einstein condensate, in which the atoms are chilled to only 0.000001 degrees above zero behaving like waves, contrasting to the particles that ought to be on the microscopic scale.

5. Killer whales come in the category of dolphins

With so many interesting scientific facts available this one will for sure amaze you. The killer whales or the orcas form the largest part of the dolphin family. But orcas are whales too, these come in the category of toothed whales. The presence of melon is a major physical characteristic trait in Orcas ensures that they are Dolphins too. Melon is a fatty deposit found only in Dolphins and assists them in echolocation.

6. The ears of grasshoppers lie in their bellies

Isn’t it among the most interesting scientific facts that grasshoppers have their ears on their bellies? Yes, unlike humans grasshoppers have their sound detectors in the form of a thin membrane called a tympanum, or “eardrum” on their bellies. The tympanum in the adult grasshoppers is covered by the wings and enables the grasshoppers to hear the sound of their fellow grasshopper.

The tympanum responds by vibrating to the sound signals important to the grasshopper.

The sounds are used by the male grasshoppers to invite mates and mark their territory. The female grasshoppers detect through the pitch of the sound sent by the male grasshoppers, the relative size of the male grasshoppers.

The pitch of the sound helps the male grasshopper in judging the size of the potential rival. This sound is used by the male grasshoppers to avoid fights with larger male grasshoppers.

7. Saliva gives taste to our food

Have you ever wondered about what gives taste to the food we eat? The reason lies in the hands of the one who cooks, but the taste of the food we eat largely depends on the saliva present in our mouth. Isn’t it among the most interesting scientific facts?

In order to derive taste chemicals from the food must dissolve in saliva first. Our taste buds can only detect the taste of the food once the chemicals of the food have been dissolved in the saliva. During this process, several constituents of the saliva chemically unite with the taste substances.

With the given interesting scientific facts it's quite clear that science never fails to amaze us. And keeps bursting balloons of surprises.
